The Department of Ceramic & Metallurgical Engineering (CME) started its journey as the Department of Glass & Ceramic Engineering (GCE) at RUET on 23rd April, 2010. Being aware of the rising demands of ceramic industries in Bangladesh, the Ministry of Education of Bangladesh granted funds for the establishment of the Glass & Ceramic Engineering Department at Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET). Finally, the Department began academic activities from the students of the 2011-2012 session (2011 series) to the 2023-2024 session (2023 series) with four year B.Sc. Engineering degree in Glass & Ceramic Engineering. The Department was renamed to Ceramic & Metallurgical Engineering on 5thMay, 2025. The change is effective for the students of the 2024-2025 session (2024 series) and the subsequent session. Currently, the Department offers four year B.Sc. Engineering degree with an intake capacity of 60 students per year that prepares the students to enter professional practice in various fields of Ceramic & Metallurgical Engineering. This department also offers postgraduate degree.
